Why you Should Always use a Second Email Address for Surveys and Reward Sites

When it comes to making money with online rewards programs and surveys there are certain tricks and tips you should be using to get the best results and the best experiences.

By experience, I mean saving time and having less of a headache associated with participating in these online rewards.

The first headache I encountered

When I first started getting involved with making money from online surveys, I was using my regular e-mail account. I had everything going and it I liked having one account to sign into to see everything. But that was a mistake.

When it comes to making money online, the first thing you should do, before everything else, is create a second email address that you’ll be using for reward sites.

Don’t make the mistake I made. If you use your personal e-mail address, you will end up with an inbox clogged with thousands of emails.

Luckily, you can avoid the headache, here’s how.

How to Avoid a Spammed Inbox

emailI use the e-mail address untanglr[at]gmail.com when I sign up for reward and survey sites online. Please don’t e-mail me at this address as chances are I won’t see it and won’t get to respond to you.

Once in Gmail, I create a folder for every email sent to my e-mail and call it “Surveys and Rewards”.

You can do this by creating a label in Gmail. You can create a label by going into settings, clicking on the “Labels” tab, scrolling down to the Labels subsection and then selecting, “Create new label.”

Create a new Gmail Label

I named my label, “Surveys and Rewards” but you can name it anything you’d like.

After creating the label, we want to set up a filter to send all our e-mails to the new folder. We do this so we don’t lose any surveys sent to us to spam.

You can do this by entering the “Filters” section and setting up a filter for every email sent to your special survey taking email address.

Click  “Create filter with this search” to get to the next step. Now you need to make sure you check the option to “Skip the Inbox (Archive) and apply the label you created. Check the box, “Never send it to Spam” too. Create the filter and you’re good to go!

Here’s what it should look like:

The one downside with never sending anything to spam is that you will have a ton of emails in your new label’s folder. But that’s the price we have to pay for getting all our surveys and maximizing our earning potential.

If you have a particular survey company you like to follow you can set additional filters to filter their e-mails or you can use the Gmail search feature to find them quicker.

Don’t want to Set Up a Second Email?

We’re all a little lazy. If you don’t want to create a new e-mail account there’s a trick that you can use to set up your Gmail account to something similar to what I have above.

Before I tell you the trick, I want to reiterate that I recommend creating a new account and setting it up like above!

Okay. The trick. If your email address is [email protected] then you can use the e-mail address [email protected]. Emails sent to this address will still come to your [email protected] address.

The + symbol makes your email address uniquely different to everyone but Gmail as Gmail doesn’t include those characters in its system.

You can then create a filter for [email protected], and make it go to your label called “Survey and Rewards” or whatever you set it to.
